It’s Going to be A Long Week

I have to spend most of this week reading to get ready for tests. That, plus a lot of little things at work will make this week extra long.

The only positive note is that the weather has been great, though a little grey. The temperature has not reached 80 for the past few days, which is always a plus.

I verbally jumped on a friend this evening during a discussion about religion and I feel really bad about it. I know, I know, religion is one of those things that you can’t discuss but we were talking about other things and religion just slipped in. I’ll call the person tomorrow and apologize for being a little too harsh.

My boss brought out his Canon AE-1 today and taught me a little about it. I was thoroughly impressed and definitely want one of these cameras. I played with the shutter speed and exposure time and he mentioned that he’d let me take it out and use it some time.

They Redeem Themselves

Texas Tech impressed me after their win over TCU. I was very skeptical about the game, thinking that we might actually lose and by the end of the first quarter I was almost 100% sure of that we would (we were down 21-0). But our boys redeemed themselves and went on to score 56 unanswered points and eventually win 70-35. So is my faith in our team completely restored? No, not until I see how we do against a little better team next week against Kansas.

My truck turned the 150k mark this weekend. It’s still running like there’s no tomorrow. Let’s just hope it stays that way.

Not Going to the Game

I’ve decided against spending tomorrow at the football game against TCU. I have a bad feeling we are going to lose and I don’t really want to be there when the fans go out of control.

I spent today at class, which despite the boring points, wasn’t too bad. I’ve got a good bit of homework for this weekend so that will keep me busy. I guess my highlight of the day was going to “One Guy From Italy” pizza parlor and getting a calzone. They claim to have the best calzone’s in Texas and I’d have to agree with them.

Interesting wrong numbers…

Us: Segars Communications

Caller: Is this reservations?

Us: No, this is Segars Communications.

Caller: Do you all sell anything?

Us: (trying not to laugh)… Yes, websites.

Caller: You all have a website?

Us: Uhhh, yeah.

Caller: My handwriting is really bad, I must’ve dialed the wrong number.

She ended up calling back 3 times…

Lubbock, a national testing ground?

It’s true you learn something new everyday. I have always wondered why there were so many restaraunts here in town and a few days ago I found out. Lubbock is a testing ground for new restaraunts and new foods in already established eateries. Places like Applebee’s, Chili’s, Texas Roadhouse, and Outback Steakhouse all do a lot of testing here. If you ever visit Lubbock you will see more restaraunts per capita than anywhere else, which, with college students from 4 different schools isn’t a bad thing.

Site Rework – Delayed Again?

Well, I ended up being busy this weekend and will probably be busy all week with school and work, so reworking this site completely is going to take more time than I thought.

I’ve tried to throw it all together but haven’t been able to put enough time into it to make it look right or work correctly. If everything goes as planned this week I should have some time on the weekend to work on it a good amount.

If you have been noticing my AIM status fluctuating (offline, then on, then off again) it is because of the AirPort Extreme that we are using here at home… We talked to Apple support about it and they suggested some things and we have determined that the Extreme is probably bad, so now we have to send that in and get a replacement. Once again, I may be without internet for a while.

On that note, I haven’t been able to play America’s Army in like a month. I’m going through withdrawals.

Almost forgot, I’ve noticed in the site’s visitor logs that there are a lot people looking for a RSS file. Bad news, there isn’t one. I am working on the XML for it, laying it out the way I want, so be patient.

Second Week Update

The second of week of school has passed and I am becoming more and more convinced that this semester is going to be a push over.

My management class, while interesting, is very slow and at times almost able to put me to sleep. The professor is very good but she sidetracks herself so much that it ruins the content of the lecture. Some of the examples that she has given in class I can already see being very useful in the future, she just needs to work on her presentation style.

My programming and database classes are both extremely easy. We will be covering PHP, MySQL, ASP.net, and probably a little JSP. All server side technologies with very little focus on anything client side. My database class is, as far as I can tell, a theory class almost completely. The professor has mentioned that we will be doing some SQL but we will mostly focus on the ideas behind effective database design.

The Poli-Sci professor announced today that she would be dropping a test, meaning that we would only have to take 3 tests and a final (optional). It’s good and bad news. Less tests mean less of a chance to make up for any mistakes but I am not too worried about that to be completely honest. I’ll probably spend this Sunday reading the required congressional information this weekend.

Oddly enough, I caught an article in the University Daily a few days ago that mentioned that the Rawls College of Business at Tech would be moving. From what I gathered they are going to move it closer to the library (there is some open land there). Their reasoning was a need for more space because of the number business students increasing over the past few years. So what are they going to do with the current building? The article stated that it would be used as a general classroom building. I am all for this move. The building has been extremely crowded these first few weeks of school and even though I probably won’t be at Tech when they finish the building I know that building a new business school is the best decision Tech could make.

Torn

I am still trying to decide which PowerBook I want. When my mom and I paid a visit to the Apple store in Houston I messed with the 12″ and the 15″ and while the 12″ was ultraportable and fairly compact the 15″ had more speed and was a little thinner.

Yesterday I was working on my bosses 15″ and I really liked it. The only thing that is a downside is the weight. It seems a little heavy but I guess that is something that I can get over.

Now to save up some cash and buy the thing! What options am I wanting with it? Well, I don’t need the SuperDrive so I will probably load up the 15″ model with 1GB RAM and that’s about it. I might get a carrying case as well, haven’t really decided.

Sean Hannity

I decided to see what Sean Hannity was all about so I streamed today’s broadcast. He has a great show and presents the “right” very well (at least in my opinion). Tonight he focused a lot on Kerry’s job and how little he has done at his current position. The best point he made was that Kerry had poor showings at the intelligence committee meetings after 9/11. Yet Kerry wants to make you think he’s been on top of the intelligence game this whole time.

I really don’t like Kerry/Bush bashing but I think that Mr. Hannity presents the facts in a decent manner without belittling anyone. He had Bush Sr. on his show and he asked some tough questions but he let the former president answer them without twisting the facts around.

Definitely one of the better radio broadcasts that I’ve heard.
