not a whole lot…

Well there isn’t a whole lot going on in Lubbock today… The temperature dropped to 20 last night with a windchill of 12, needless to say the roads were frozen this morning.

Today is the “dead day” or a day of no class and no finals. It is basically a day to study but I doubt very few people actually study though. I am going to study a little for my Accounting test but since I had a review last night I am not too worried about it. Economics will take up most of my time because I want to make an ‘A’ on it.

I have started a log analysis tool for websites using Python and wxPython. It should come out pretty well but who knows, I am really worried about large log files clogging up the code but we’ll see.

Last day of class!!

Well today is the last day of classes here at Texas Tech University. Am I excited? Oh, you know it…

I have two finals on Saturday, my ISQS (computer) and Accounting. Economics is not till next Tuesday and it is the main exam that I am going to study for, just because it is so important. (That was sarcasm if you didn’t get it).

I am still trying to come up with good software ideas but haven’t been able to come up with anything as of yet.

As a sidenote, I am in the process of trying to fix my truck to the point where it is almost brand new. I think I am going to open up a little donations thing and call it “Operation Fix Stephan’s Tank” or something like that. Probably won’t get a lot of money from it but anything would help at this point. It needs new springs, the interior needs to be redone, the top needs to be taken off, resealed and put back on. Basically it needs to be restored.

dust!

Lubbock + wind + cold = dust and an unpleasant time…. The dust has really picked up and the sky is red, yippee rolleyes. Since I live on the north side of town it is probably really bad over there (because the wind coming out of the north has nothing to stop it. I am really not too excited about going to Economics today.

It got cold!!!

The temperature has dropped into the low 30’s with a wind chill of 20. The temp last night was 73!!! The weird thing is the temperature keeps dropping by a few degrees every hour, it will probably be in the teens by tonight. Supposedly there is snow on the way but I don’t believe it.

Smooth Fusion had the Christmas party last night and it was pretty fun even though I got lost on the way out there. The steaks were great!!

You learn something new everyday…

Well I learned something about Google today. There is a technique called ‘Googlebombing’. Basically it is when a bunch of sites are linked to a specific site with a certain keyword. Fact and point, go to Google and search for ‘Miserable Failure’ and look where it takes you. You can also search for ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ and it gives some more goofy results. Anyway, just thougth that was interesting though I don’t like people complaining about the president. Grow up and realize that the world doesn’t revolve around you.

Also, I solidified my geekdom Saturday by watching ‘Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers’. I have to say that I was pretty impressed and captivated by the movie. Since I heard the third one is going to be mostly fighting, I think I am going to go see it, or maybe I’ll wait and just rent it.

just so everyone knows…

I hate school and I am ready for it to be over this semester, just so you all know. I have realized that the GPA system is there to mess up a student’s future as much as possible. If a student makes a 3.8 his freshman year and then makes A’s and B’s the next year, his gradepoint falls and it continues to fall. The reason being is that cumulative GPA is calculated using a system that hinders a student from being able to show his doing well. What the system does is show when a student does badly, but it does not allow the student to make up the gradepoints as easily as he lost them, which, in my opinion is wrong. If you get a 3.8 one semester and you do badly the next (let’s say you get a 2.5), your GPA falls to around 3.3. Now to make up the points you lost you would have to make straight A’s for the rest of college (that is if you have enough years to do that). It’s like hitting someone when they’re down.

looks like snow…

Well it looks like it may snow sometime next week (if not this weekend). My response to the thought of snow is, “bout time!”. The weather has been so screwy, not just here but everywhere, cold, then hot, then back to cold….

Well it looks like I’ll just take the Economics final just to see how I do on it. That kind of sucks because I was hoping not to take it but I did pretty bad on the test today (even though I studied for it).

Stats and why I hate it!

Just for the record, I hate statistics! I have a test in it today and it is going to be the death of me. It’s funny, this is the first math class in college that I have struggled with and I think the reason for that is the fact that I have no idea what the purpose is of what we are learning. The teacher doesn’t tell us what we are going to use any of this stuff for, she just gives us formulas and a few crappy examples. If she would go over how to use this stuff in real life examples or something I think it would help a lot… Oh, and the fact that people can barely understand her because her accent is so thick doesn’t help either. If I do badly in this class I am blaming it all on her. In fact, I think that if anyone does worse than they felt they should in this class, they should blame it on her!

Microsoft in the car market?!

I just read this on Wired News, Microsoft seems to want to jump into the car market and all I can say is “just great….”. This is the last thing we need is an OS in our cars that has a chance of failing. Computers are inherently insecure and are only as smart as the people who write their code so there is going to be breakdown in the software at some point, hopefully it isn’t at a critical moment while driving. I also like how none of the car companies are U.S. Rolleyes
