  1. Great find Stephan.

I’m not really worried about the swine flu, honestly the odds of me catching it are much less than the odds that I’ll die from a car accident or heart disease before I’m 25.

However, I am quite concerned that Mexico is possibly underreporting deaths and cases. I read a story today that there are actually only 19 deaths, and ~550 total cases. Mexico certainly has a history of doing this and a good motivation to downplay the threat as the summer travel/tourism season begins. I’ve read maybe thirty different accounts saying the deathtolls are much higher than reported (still not a reason to wear a SARS mask around Austin) and that healthy people die quickly, within a day or two. These range from a couple of more notable blogs to a story I read on the BBC. I’ve long trusted the BBC over American journalism, but it is still journalism. I’m sure the truth is somewhere in the middle, but it does alarm me that Mexico is only reporting 19 dead. That’s right everyone, we’re all up in arms about 19 dead… in Mexico… riiiiiiiight.
